Assistant Professor Xanthoula – Eirini Pantazi holds a PhD in Biosystems Engineering and is an expert in bio-inspired computational systems and data mining. Her research interests include precision farming, plant stress detection, sensor fusion, machine learning, and non-destructive sensing of biomaterial and crop protection. Her main contribution has been in advanced contextual fusion framework from diverse information sources. One important aspect that she has developed concerns unsupervised fusion framework where sparse encoding produces latent variables capturing context from multimodal information. She has developed a meta-learning framework for lifelong learning in autonomous systems based on active learning and novelty classifiers based on one-class assemblies with dynamic conflict resolution. Recent research includes an application of active learning in a number of sectors from condition monitoring, crop status determination, weed species recognition and crop phenotyping as well as post-harvest quality determination. She has presented 30 relevant papers in international conferences and has published 17 papers in scientific journals and 5 book chapters in research monographs. She is the main author of the Monograph “Intelligent Data Mining and Fusion Systems in Agriculture” (Link).

Post-Doc Researchers

Dr. Charalampos Paraskevas holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering and Water Resources. He received his PhD from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for his thesis on water flow movement in soils using mathematical models, image analysis and computer vision algorithms. Furthermore, he holds a MSc in Agricultural Engineering and Water Resources and a BSc in Hydraulics, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research interests include water resources modelling, image analysis, computer vision methods, vadose zone hydrology and climate change impact assessment in water resources.

Technical Scientific Personnel

Konstantinos Dolaptsis received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in November 2014. In Jule 2019 received his Master’s Degree in Agriculture Engineering from School of Agriculture (AUTH). His diploma paper was titled :’’ Disease detection in vineyard crop under control conditions, using machine learning methods’’. He has worked for 2 years in the private sector as administrator and in research and development. His research interests include disease monitoring, machine learning and robotic agriculture.

Antonios Morellos is an Agronomist (AUTH) with MSc in Greenhouse Horticulture (Wageningen). Currently pursuing a PhD in Crop disease detection in the Agricultural Engineering Laboratory of AUTH. Expertise and experience in data analysis, machine learning, image spectroscopy and artificial neural networks, dynamic modelling. Expert knowledge of programming in Matlab. His minor thesis in WUR in cooperation with AUTH concerned the development of machine learning models for soil nutrients prediction for use in real-time prediction from on-line NIRS soil scanning (ICT Agri II project FARMFUSE). This research led to one journal publication in ISI journal with impact factor (COMPAG) and one book chapter.
